PARASITES: Earth’s Oldest Inhabitants (and Ours Too!)

Awareness and prevention from a Natural Hygiene Perspective

Parasites are among the oldest and most widespread inhabitants of the Earth. Their existence is based upon a relationship with a host whose body provides the environment and resources they need to survive and reproduce.

A journey into the world of Parasites

This book enters their world while looking more deeply at human beings and our relationship with the environment that surrounds and permeates us.

Written in an accessible and conversational form, it introduces commonly recognised human parasites alongside organisms and manifestations that are less frequently observed or investigated, including the controversial formations known as rope worms.

The host is part of the enquiry

A parasite does not exist independently from the organism it inhabits. Its presence, activity and development are connected with the internal environment of the host, including nutrition, metabolism, tissues, immune responses and the conditions that allow it to complete its life cycle.

The book explores this relationship from the perspective of Natural Hygiene, bringing biological information into dialogue with direct observation, fasting, traditional knowledge, bodily experience and the energetic dimension of living systems.

The enquiry therefore extends beyond identifying individual species. It asks how parasites may participate in physical symptoms, behavioural patterns and changes that are rarely considered together—and how greater awareness of the internal environment may help restore balance.

A relationship of conscious coexistence

Parasites are living beings structured to inhabit and reproduce through other organisms. Their relationship with humans cannot be understood only through fear or eradication.

Awareness makes it possible to examine how this relationship develops, what conditions sustain it and how the host environment can change. The aim is to recognise excessive or harmful presences while developing a more conscious relationship with every form of nature—including parasites.

From research to publication

The book developed from Silvia Isadora Isaksen’s thesis, PARASSITI: Consapevolezza e prevenzione dal punto di vista igienista, discussed with Valdo Vaccaro at the Health Science University in Imola in March 2020, and we can see a picture of the moment.

The research subsequently grew into the first publication issued by Assist – Natural Health Fellowship. It brings together years of study, personal experience and practical enquiry into parasites, fasting, health and the relationship between the visible and energetic aspects of life.

The purpose is to provide information, stimulate observation and invite readers to reconsider a field that receives little attention in contemporary everyday culture.

Why I chose to turn the research into a book

The more I investigated parasites, the more I realised how little space they occupy in ordinary conversations about health, despite being an ancient and widespread part of life on Earth.

What began as academic research gradually became a wider enquiry. Questions raised by study were joined by observation, personal experience and the need to bring together information that is usually scattered across very different fields.

Publishing the work was therefore a natural continuation of the research: a way of making those questions accessible beyond the context in which the thesis had originally been written.

English Edition in Preparation

An English translation of the original book has already been completed, but the forthcoming edition will be more than a translation.

Before publication, I am carrying out a new authorial revision, incorporating further research, observations and experiences that have emerged since the Italian edition was released in 2023.

The English edition will therefore preserve the foundations of the original work while reflecting the evolution of the enquiry over the intervening years.

Publication is currently in preparation.
