Gabriella Mereu
Gabriella Mereu is a volcanic woman, guided by sharp intuition, innate curiosity and the deep cultural background of Sardinia.
Born in Quartu Sant’Elena, near Cagliari, she graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Sassari in 1983. She later trained in holistic medicine at the school directed by Corrado Bornoroni in Urbino, obtained a diploma in graphology in 1992 and studied homeopathic medicine in Rome with Professor Antonio Negro.
These different fields of knowledge gradually came together in an original enquiry into the relationships between physical symptoms, emotional experience, language and awareness.
The language of symptoms
Gabriella Mereu observes the words, metaphors, gestures and expressions people use when describing physical discomfort. She invites them to leave aside medical terminology and the names of diseases and to describe how the symptom feels in the simple, spontaneous language of a two-year-old child.
The words that emerge often contain images, associations and expressions shared through the collective unconscious. Within the personal history of the individual, they can reveal the emotional pattern being expressed through the body.
The soul speaks simply.
For Gabriella, illness carries a metaphorical expression of lived emotional experience. The symptom communicates through the means available to it, drawing attention to a conflict, belief or distortion that has not yet been consciously recognised.
Words as information
Her experience with homeopathy contributed to a central intuition: if a homeopathic remedy can convey information, information may also be transmitted through words.
From this enquiry, Gabriella developed verbal practices intended to bring the pattern expressed by the symptom into conscious awareness. She uses direct, uncensored language that speaks to the person beyond conventional explanations and reaches the emotional terrain from which the symptom arises.
In her work, verbal interventions have sometimes been followed by rapid changes in physical symptoms. The cases she has documented include experiences in which subsequent medical examinations confirmed changes in the person’s physical condition.
The purpose of this work is to recognise the information carried by the symptom and observe whether the body responds when that information becomes conscious.
The psychic terrain
Gabriella describes the psychic terrain as the meeting point between the vibrational and physical dimensions of experience.
This terrain is influenced by beliefs and internalised convictions that shape perception, emotion and bodily response. Gabriella calls them stronzate di base—literally, “basic bullshit”: ideas absorbed through family, culture, relationships and personal history.
Her deliberately direct and uncensored language forms part of the method. It interrupts habitual explanations and brings attention to the pattern operating beneath them.
Gabriella is a courteous woman. Her occasional use of crude or provocative language is deliberate: it is intended to jolt awareness and reach the soul without passing through conventional filters. People often respond by laughing, crying or becoming angry. Within her practice, all three reactions indicate that the message has reached the emotional pattern.
Once the soul’s lament has been heard and understood, Gabriella observes that the body no longer needs to express it through the same symptom. The symptom has completed its function and can subside or disappear.
Awareness can alter the relationship between the individual and the pattern. In some cases, Gabriella observes that this recognition is sufficient to initiate a rapid change in the process expressed through the body.
Once the message has been understood, the symptom has fulfilled its function.
Energetic support
To support understanding and change, Gabriella also works with Bach Flower Remedies and homeopathic remedies. She regards them as carriers of energetic information that can gently accompany a person towards a different vibrational state.
This change can create distance from the energetic pattern that has kept the individual bound to a painful manifestation, making it easier to recognise the pattern without continuing to experience it as an inescapable condition.
Gabriella also uses Krämer’s Bach Flower Body Maps as an aid for observing correspondences between areas of the body, emotional patterns and flower remedies. The maps can help her identify the energies and the “basic bullshit” concealed behind a painful manifestation.
Terapia Verbale and Medicina della Consapevolezza
Through decades of observation and practice, Gabriella developed Terapia Verbale and Medicina della Consapevolezza.
Her approach brings together symptom observation, spontaneous language, graphology, emotional history, homeopathic thought and the recognition of recurring patterns. The individual participates directly by listening to the words used to describe the symptom and observing the responses that arise in the body.
The work creates a bridge between the tangible manifestation of the symptom and the emotional, informational and vibrational dimensions of experience.
Outside established paths
Gabriella’s work developed beyond the approaches recognised by conventional medical institutions. Her invitation to observe and investigate the results she encountered did not lead to formal scientific study.
Her practices and public statements resulted in disciplinary proceedings and her removal from the Italian medical register in 2017. The resulting media attention brought her work to a much wider audience, often through controversy rather than through direct examination of her methods and documented cases.
She continued her research, teaching and public demonstrations, developing her work through direct experience and the responses observed in the people who approached her.
Resonance beyond the individual
In her more recent work, Gabriella has been exploring how an individual’s energetic condition may also be reflected through companion animals and the objects or devices used in everyday life.
She observes that animals living within the same relational field can express conditions that resonate with the emotional patterns of the people around them.
She has also encountered surprising parallels between personal experiences and recurring problems affecting everyday equipment—for example, between the condition of a car and situations unfolding in its owner’s life.
These correspondences expand the field of observation beyond the individual body. Animals, objects and technical systems can become further expressions of the information circulating within a shared environment, offering additional clues to the patterns operating within it.
An enquiry that continues
Gabriella Mereu continues to explore and teach the language of symptoms and the relationships between health, emotional experience, unconscious patterns, awareness and the vibrational dimension of life.
Her books, courses, public talks, demonstrations, interviews and recorded materials document the development of this enquiry over time.
Natural Health Fellowship presents her work to an English-speaking audience as an important field of exploration into the possibility that words and conscious recognition can influence bodily processes.
Her work invites us to listen differently: to observe the body, attend to the language through which it expresses itself and consider what may change when its message becomes conscious.
Help carry Gabriella Mereu's work into other languages
Natural Health Fellowship is seeking bilingual translators and cultural mediators who can help make Gabriella Mereu’s work accessible in English, Spanish, Russian and other languages.
This work requires more than linguistic accuracy. Gabriella’s method draws upon popular sayings, ancestral expressions, regional language, dialect and the spontaneous metaphors through which the collective unconscious speaks within each culture.
A literal translation may preserve the words while losing the message they carry. We are therefore looking for people who know both languages and cultures from within and can recognise the emotional force, humour, disruption and resonance contained in their everyday expressions.
The purpose is to transmit the function of the language without censoring, softening or separating it from the cultural field in which it arose.
If you have the linguistic and cultural experience required for this work and would like to contribute, contact Natural Health Fellowship.
