Natural Materials & Everyday Products
The materials and objects we use every day enter into a continuous relationship with the body and the environments in which we live. Their composition, construction, function and duration influence how they feel, how they perform and what remains when their useful life comes to an end.
This selection brings together materials, tools and everyday products chosen through practical experience, material knowledge and attention to their relationship with the body.
Each recommendation explains what the product is made from, how it can be used, why it has been selected and any limitations worth considering. Selection does not depend solely on whether something is described as “natural”: origin, processing, additives, durability, maintenance, packaging and actual usefulness may all be relevant.
Materials & Fibres
Natural fibres, fabrics, yarns and other materials for clothing, interiors, craft and self-production.
This section considers their origin, processing, behaviour in use, contact with the body, maintenance and suitability for different purposes. It may also examine the differences between a raw material and the finished products marketed under its name.
Clothing & Personal Use
Clothing and other products that remain in direct contact with the body are selected according to their composition, construction, comfort, durability and embodied experience.
Particular attention is given to fibres, finishes, fit, breathability, care requirements and the way a product behaves through repeated use.
Personal Care & Natural Wellbeing
Clays, essential oils, flower remedies, brushes, combs, toothbrushes and other products used in personal care, hygiene and everyday natural practices.
Recommendations are based on composition, intended use, direct experience and the quality of the available information. Where a product requires particular care, dilution, individual evaluation or specialist guidance, this will be stated clearly.
Home & Living
Objects and materials contribute to the atmosphere, comfort and practical functioning of a space.
This section presents products for everyday environments chosen for their function, material qualities, longevity, maintenance, repairability and ability to age well through use.
Making, Maintenance & Repair
Knowing how to make, adapt and repair extends the useful life of objects and develops a more direct relationship with materials.
This section includes tools, components and practical products that support craft, self-production, maintenance and repair. Recommendations will explain their function, appropriate use and suitability for different levels of experience.
How Products Are Selected
The products presented here are not included simply because they are popular, fashionable or commercially available. They are selected when they offer a useful example, solve a practical need or contribute to a more conscious relationship with the body, matter and everyday life.
No product is perfect in every respect. Where relevant, the presentation will identify compromises, uncertainties and possible alternatives, allowing each person to evaluate whether it is appropriate for their own needs.
